Luxury Family Snow Trip Without the European Price Tag

Our first winter adventure with our two little ones (2 and 4) took us to Pik Palace in Shahdag, Azerbaijan — and it was such a fun and easy introduction to a family ski trip.

The journey already felt like part of the experience: a short flight to Baku, followed by a scenic 3-hour drive into the Caucasus Mountains. Snowy peaks, winding roads, and wide open landscapes made it feel like we were slowly arriving into a winter world.

Pik Palace, Shahdag, Autograph Collection sits right in the heart of Azerbaijan’s largest ski resort area, with everything built around skiing and family-friendly mountain activities. There are wide slopes for all levels, ski schools, rentals, and English-speaking instructors, which makes it very easy even for beginners or families trying skiing for the first time.

Even with small kids who weren’t skiing yet, there was still plenty to enjoy — indoor pool time, snowy walks, sledding, and just playing outside in the crisp mountain air. The resort feels connected and easy to explore, with different activity zones across Shahdag.

What really stood out is that it offers a luxury mountain experience, but at a much more accessible price point than most European ski resorts in winter — without compromising on comfort, scenery, or service.

For us, the best part was simply the atmosphere: mountains all around, families on the slopes, and that cosy winter feeling everywhere you go.

A short, simple, and memorable first ski trip as a family — and one we’d happily do again.
