Phuket might just be one of the best family destinations in Thailand

What surprised us most was how easy family travel felt here. Beautiful beaches, incredible food, family-friendly resorts, fun activities for kids, nearby shopping, and unforgettable day trips — Phuket really has the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation for families.

We stayed at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa on the quieter Mai Khao Beach area, away from Phuket’s busy tourist hotspots and nightlife. This side of the island feels much calmer, more peaceful, and perfect for families wanting a more relaxed resort-style holiday while still having plenty to do nearby.

The peaceful beachfront setting, fantastic kids club, family pool with slides, spacious rooms, and variety of restaurants made it an ideal base for travelling with children.

One of the absolute highlights of our Phuket family holiday was John Gray’s Sea Canoe “Hong by Starlight” tour through Phang Nga Bay. This famous Phuket boat tour takes you through dramatic limestone cliffs, hidden caves, and lagoons that feel completely untouched. As the sun sets, you float through the bay under the stars while releasing traditional flower lanterns onto the water. It was honestly one of the most magical travel experiences we’ve ever had.

Another unforgettable experience was visiting an ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket, where the kids could feed and gently wash rescued elephants in a respectful environment. Seeing their excitement and connection with the animals was something we will never forget. - can be booked at the resort

Phuket is so much more than a beach destination. It’s one of those rare places where both kids and parents genuinely have the best time — whether that’s pool days, island adventures, amazing Thai food, or simply watching the sunset together by the ocean.
